Ink CartridgeGeneric Inks: Are they really the same?

With some of the high costs that can be associated with buying ink or ink cartridges, at some point the question will be raised, should I buy generic? Should I just refill my old ink cartridge? Buy a new name brand?  With tougher economic times, and companies cutting costs wherever possible, the question has been raised:  which type of inks will work the best and at the lowest costs? If you own a printer, label maker, barcode printer or any ink using product, you know how important quality inks are.

After only three or four trips to the computer store to buy a new ink cartridge, you probably could have already spent that same money on a brand new printer. With such high prices, you have to ask yourself, where do I draw the line between cost and effectiveness?  Many inkjet printers are designed to use certain inks,  as many of the parts can differ and suit a large range of different needs and desires. Putting inks not designed for your printer can have some nasty effects, from poor picture quality, to not printing at all. It is best to always use the inks designed for your printer, as they were created for a reason.

There are a few factors that have to be accounted for when comparing quality of inks, such as longevity of prints,  the number of printer per cartridge, quality of prints and of course, the cost are some of the biggest factors.  One of the biggest Ink producers, HP for example  claims that their ink cartridges will last almost twice as long as a generic or remanufactured ink cartridge, and that they are about five time more reliable. That’s a pretty drastic difference, and the ink is also of a higher quality. HP inks can come with more radiant colors to provide some of the most professional looking pictures from right at home or in the office.

HP ink also have another feature that ensures the most bang for your buck. HP Vivera inks have been designed so that color and pigmentation are guaranteed to not start fading for 108 years. This means that your professional looking pictures will last a lifetime.  High gloss paper can be used as well to increase the overall quality of the photo.

At the end of the day, you have two main choices you can make with your printer, you can print cheap or you can print well. Because name brand inks last longer, have higher quality and work better with your equipment, there’s no reason why not to stop refilling old cartridges, or saving a few bucks on low quality inks. For the best printing with the highest quality, buy the inks that were designed for your printer and enjoy the professional looking results.
